I am almost finished recording Ancient Phrases, a collection of solo piano compositions. These pieces are a blend of classical, Americana, rock, and jazz – four of my favorite styles! I am in the process of setting up performances at various venues throughout the next twelve months.

Ancient Phrases

The title Ancient Phrases refers to those things, both physical and spiritual, that we feel we have in common with our ancestors and our world as far back as time can be measured. It is a musical attempt to describe the fascination and simultaneous fear of what it means to be alive. These piano compositions are being recorded at The Spot Recording Studio in Winston Salem, North Carolina. John Wilson is the engineer. I will be giving recital programs and, occasionally, some informal lectures along with the recital, throughout the next year. These are not improvisations. They are compositions that arose out of improvised composing. I use mostly odd-meters such as five, and seven, in an attempt to find the natural lilt that these rhythms possess. The scores to these pieces will be finished in a few months and available for purchase.
